Additional comments (e.g., about course content/materials, teaching style, etc.):
Great professor! Made everything really clear and provided step-by-step guidance for each problem. Very helpful to students either through office hours or by e-mail (really quick responses). She needs to get hired as a faculty professor at UMD.
Beth is a great teacher! Sometimes she goes through problems a little too quickly, but she's awesome about going back and clarifying, so it's not really an issue. Besides that, she's really approachable, really helpful and really enjoyable.
Beth goes very quickly in her lectures, and doesn't leave students much time in class to read and process what she has just written on the board, but she is very friendly and willing to answer student's questions. Also she gives weekly quizzes and drops the lowest two, which boosts grades and forces students to study weekly rather than letting the content accumulate before exams.
The professor
What I felt isn't addressed enough in the class is MATLAB coding which I often found I had the most trouble with compared to the actual material of differential equations. However, Beth got better t helping the class with this throughout the semester, and I find she is a really understanding teacher. She would answer all questions, explaining them thoroughly, and I always felt prepared for each of her exams.
Beth was an absolutely amazing teacher. She was great at explaining concepts that I didn't understand. Her enthusiasm for the course kept me interested
We did not spend enough time on eigenvalues and eigenvectors. More examples in class would've helped understanding their function and the solving process. I thought the rest of the class was well-paced and taught pretty well. MATLAB assignments were extremely time-consuming (mostly because the book is not sufficiently detailed or well-written to explain how to solve all the problems assigned) and took away time that could have been used on practice problems more relevant to the course.
Professor Wilson was incredibly helpful both in class and outside of class. She was always available over e-mail, and was always eager to help with homework questions. She was always engaged in student's concerns and tried very hard to make sure we understood everything.
The most difficult thing with this class was the speed with which we went through the material. Lots of information was crammed into 2 hour and 15 minute lectures per week, which meant it was difficult to retain the material after up to 5 days of not having lecture. It meant much more work was needed outside of class.
The course itself is tough. No matter which professor you have, you're going to have to put considerable effort into teaching yourself concepts. With that being said, Beth is a wonderful professor, although sometimes she rushes through some concepts and makes a minor mistake. She knows what she's talking about and her teaching style makes the class interesting. She is very understanding of student concerns as well.
Very caring teacher. She taught pretty well and made sure we knew what we were doing.
Beth is a new teacher, so it is understandable she made a few mistakes every once in a while. However, she was eager and very easy to contact. She was also down to earth in her teaching which made the content easier to understand.
