TextbookCalculus for the Life Sciences by Greenwell, Ritchey, and Lial.  Math 130 will cover Chapters 2-7.  You are expected to read each section that is covered.  You are also encouraged to read the Review Chapter and Chapter 1 (you may skip the least squares part in chapter 1).

Calculators: Calculators of any kind are not allowed in quizes and exams.  All devices with an on/off switch, including cell phones and all other portable devices, should be turned off during quizzes and exams.

Classroom rules: No cell phone conversations, no emails, no texting, no web surfing.

Grading Policy

  Quizzes 15% (lowest 2 dropped)
  BioModules 15% (lowest one dropped)
  3 midterms, each15%, Total 45%
  Final exam 25%

Homework: Homework will be assigned on the web, but not collected or graded.  However, math is learned through practice!  Attendance in lecutres will not be sufficient for mastering the material.  Therefore, you are expected to do the homework.   Quiz questions will be similar to the homework questions.

Quizzes:  In every Monday discussion section, there will be a short quiz that will be similar to the homework.  Each student's lowest two quiz grades will be dropped at the end of the semester.  Therefore, makeup quizzes will not be given.

BioModules: In each Wednesday discussion section, you will work in groups to complete short biology projects.  These projects are designed to give you experience applying concepts from class to bioogical problems.  The bio-modules should be submitted individually to the TAs, the following Wednesday before class starts.  The assignments will be graded by the TAs.  The lowest grade will be dropped.  Students who must miss a Wednesday discussion section for verifiable, university-sanctioned reasons, may, with prior approval from the TA, complete the week's module on their own and submit it on the due date.

Exams: There will be 3 midterm exams and one final exam.  All midterm exams will be held in class instead of a lecture.  If you have any conflicts with the assigned dates of the exams please contact me by email up to one week before the exam.  In cases of emergency - contact me by  email as soon as possible.

Cheating: No cheating.  Studnets caught cheating will be prosecuted according to the university regulations

Academic integrity: The university expects all students to adhere to the University Honor Pledge: "I pledge on my honor that I have not given or received any unauthorized assistance on this assignment/ examination."

Disabilities: Students who require special examination conditions must register with the office of the Disabled Students Services (DSS) in Shoemaker Hall.  Documentation must be provided to the instructor.  Proper forms must be filled and provided to the instructor before every exam.
