Number Theory at Poolesville: Detailed Syllabus

2013-2014, Dr. Ron Lipsman

The symbol KW denotes the course text, An Introduction to Number Theory with Cryptography by Kraft and Washington. The number of sections in KW that we will cover is approximately 40. The number of course lectures (not counting exams) is roughly 29. So the pace will be robust. The syllabus is arranged by "Assignment" number. However, the "Class Date" column below will not be filled in until a few weeks before its occurrence, just to enable flexibility in scheduling. You should check this page, and the Homework page, regularly to keep abreast of the due dates for Projects and Computer Explorations. For the moment, dates are indicated only for the first ten sessions. As the calendar firms up, additional dates will be specified.

An "X" in the penultimate column indicates that an exam occurs that week. Eventually, an "X" will appear in the final column corresponding to any week in which an additional Mathematica lecture is scheduled.
